Project Description

Nearly 26 million American children and adults have diabetes and an additional 79 million adults have prediabetes. This number is expected to grow with an additional 1.9 million people being diagnosed each year. IMMC offers services to help with the diagnosis and management of diabetes as well as additional conditions often associated with diabetes, such as obesity, stroke and heart disease. Through quality diabetes treatment, monitoring and testing, along with guidance on medication, weight control, exercise and proper nutrition, those with the disease can lead a full and productive life. Our physicians collaborate with an on-site pharmacist/certified diabetes educator and dietitian to help manage your diabetes.

Diabetes Basics:

Type 1

Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. Type 1 diabetes happens when your immune system destroys cells in your pancreas called beta cells. Beta cells make insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps move sugar, or glucose, into your body’s tissues. Cells use it as fuel.1

Type 2

There are around 27 million people in the US with diabetes. People with Type 2 diabetes make insulin, but their cells don’t use it as well as they should. This is known as being insulin resistance. At first, the pancreas makes more insulin to try to get glucose into the cells, but it can’t keep up and the sugar builds up the blood instead.2

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes develops during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes causes high blood sugar that can affect your pregnancy and your baby’s health. If you’ve had gestational diabetes you could be at risk for type 2 diabetes. Speak with your physician to monitor and manage your blood sugar.3

ALME OTTO

Great Clinic! I have used their Urgent Care which was great and have scheduled my normal non-emergency visits. I have called in for some quick prescription refills and they accommodated my need to rush it though. When looking looking for a primary care doctor, I was recommend by a friend to see Dr. Thayne. He has been great!
